On January 10, 2006, I was elected President of Citizens for Healthcare Freedom and the CHF-NC Fund. I am a naturopathic doctor, Certified CranioSacral Therapist and have studied several specialized areas of natural health. I’m in private practice in Shelby, NC, having been in practice since spring of 2000.
I am involved in CHF because of my burning desire for the public to become more educated in natural health, and have the freedom to choose whatever form of healthcare they believe is best. Most importantly, I want to see The Health Freedom Act, House Bill 1303, passed this year to make my above desires attainable.
Currently, natural health practitioners cannot freely educate the public about healing the body naturally because of the fear of being accused of practicing medicine without a license. Therefore, not only are people not being educated, but the general public does not even know there are other options available besides prescription drugs and surgery. Natural health practitioners cannot even advertise without that same fear of “practicing medicine without a license.”
HB1303, if passed, would allow practitioners to openly teach the public about different forms of natural healthcare, and advertise their existence and areas of expertise, as long as they followed the guidelines of the bill. To summarize the bill, practitioners of natural health modalities ranging from naturopathy to bodywork, would be able to practice freely and legally in North Carolina.
Needless to say, if HB1303 is passed it would open so many possibilities for consumers and practitioners alike. To pass this bill, we need continual support financially and with volunteers to get the “word” out. I know many of you have donated of your time and money in the past (and we very much appreciate it all), but NOW is the most crucial time to act.
If we cannot continue on with even MORE support, all our efforts in the past will be wasted. We have a hardworking lobbyist who has done amazing things to progress our bill this far. The hard, cold facts are that we need approximately $3,300 now to pay past due obligations. CHF – NC Fund will need a bare minimum of $30,000 this year for our legislative effort, but ideally we should raise between $50,000 and $75,000 for operating and legislative funds, to assure passage of the Health Freedom Act. In addition, Our lobbyist is not even charging us enough to cover his costs!
In view of these facts, the board has decided, with encouragement from many of our friends, to begin implementing nominal “Friends of CHF” dues ($35 per year) effective immediately.
